How to Prune Shrubs and Trees Webinar

One of the most confounding tasks in the yard or landscape has to be pruning. Pruning classes I’ve given live over the years have always been filled. Many gardeners feel intimidated and confused by advice from friends, family and the internet. That’s why I created my  How to Prune Shrubs and Trees Webinar

In this webinar I hope to simplify pruning shrubs and trees so that you can move more confidently in your pruning tasks this winter and spring. I’ll try to take the guesswork out of pruning and talk about the whys and hows of pruning based on science.

I’ll also emphasize the art of pruning. This combination of art and science can help you better understand what happens when you prune and how to use pruning as a way to create more attractive and productive shrubs and trees. I’ll also talk about the best ways to reduce the size of overgrown shrubs and trees without making the plant look unnatural or causing it extensive damage. Because this will be a webinar, I’ll try to show examples of good and bad pruning techniques and how you an do better.

About this Webinar

Pruning is best practiced to gain confidence and knowledge of what happens when you prune. The first question you should answer is why are you pruning this plant. Whether it be to create a healthier growth habit, to stimulate new growth and flowering or to reduce its size, there are different ways to accomplish those tasks. Many gardeners are too shy about pruning and tend to prune too little, resulting in a poorly shaped shrub. I’ll cover the best ways to prune a variety of woody plants in this webinar.

My webinar runs for 1 hour with a live Q/A session afterward for up to 1/2 hour. It’s a great opportunity to learn some basic pruning skills and get specific questions answered during the talk. If you can’t make it to the live event on March 26th, no problem. I will be recording this webinar and everyone who signs up will get a link to the webinar. You can watch it as many times as you like.

In this Webinar you’ll learn about:

  • The best tools to use to prune
  • The whys of pruning and what happens when you prune a branch
  • How to prune a young tree, especially fruit tree, to create the proper branching before it grows large
  • How a shrub and tree responds to pruning at different times of the year
